You’re doing a great job!
Have you ever been so busy in your mind, you can’t think straight? So overwhelmed, your short-term memory disappears?
I stood, staring at a wall of batteries blankly. I had not long walked into a large and unfamiliar supermarket, took the first isle, and had stopped myself, realising I had no idea what it was I’d come in to grab!
I closed my eyes, trying to access my shopping list, but instead, found a mess of jumbled thoughts.
I’d spent my day being taught how to use medical equipment to help a family member. My mind had focused on learning, up until I’d left the educator, and then my mind went into shut-down mode.
I decided to just pick up some junk food and head to the check-out counter.
“Oh, I don’t think you scanned that?” I said to the nervous cashier, as she began bagging my items. “Ah, I’m so sorry”, she replied. “It’s my first day, and I’m feeling a little overwhelmed.”
As I made my purchase and we exchanged smiles, I said to her, “Have a great day!”
“Umm, yeah, I’m meant to say that too, to you, I forgot”, she said.
“You’re doing a great job…” I replied reassuringly.
Let me say this to you too today! You may be getting your head around something new, something stressful, overwhelming or tough.
I want you to know, you’re doing a great job!
