Comfortable
My daughter sucks her thumb. It helps her to settle when she is nervous, feel better, when she is unwell and comfortable when she is tired or sad.
This week, I drove us both into town, parked the car, and helped her out of her car seat.
A toy had arrived in a shop across the road, and she was keen to pick it up!
As we stood at the curb, I asked her to hold my hand, ready to safely cross the street together.
I put out my hand for her to grab and patiently waited, noticing she was sucking her thumb with the hand I was waiting to hold.
“Ok, ready!” She said, as she took her thumb out of her mouth and reached for my hand - after a few moments of thought.
It got me thinking about the comforts we all have, often coming from ourselves, and the struggle to put them aside, so we can hold God’s hand to be navigated across the street and end up with a blessing on the other side.
