Change

“It’s time for a change in shampoo,” the hairdresser advised, as I picked up a new bottle of my favourite caramel-smelling product.

A few years back, my hairdresser had recommended it and now she was telling me “No”?

Had she been mistaken now or then? Had the product changed? All I knew was that my hair still looked clean and smelt good! I really liked THIS shampoo…

I’d formed a great friendship with my hairdresser over the years and though I didn’t understand ‘why the change’: I trusted her!

“What would you recommend instead?” I asked, puzzled.

“This one, but you’ll need to wait until it arrives,” she replied, as she opened the lid of a sample bottle, letting me smell its fragrance.

I was a little disappointed at the idea of change and inconvenienced by needing to wait, but I trusted it was the right thing to do.

The point was, the product hadn’t changed, but the needs of my hair had.

I was blind to it, but my hairdresser, the Hair Expert, had made a good judgment—one that I was yet to discover...

In life, we often tackle much bigger changes. It might be a change in job, house, or relationship. These changes can be scary, painful, and sometimes completely unexpected. Sometimes these changes require us to wait on the Lord.

It doesn’t mean that where we were or what we were doing had no value, but rather that there was a time for it, and now our needs have changed. Trust in your good friend God and be patient. Let Him lead you to the next right thing.
